Flute Lessons

Laura Piras

I’m a professional flute teacher based in London and a freelance flautist specialising in historical performance. I teach students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced players, university students and adult learners. I offer lessons on modern, baroque and keyed classical flutes, as well as music theory tuition up to ABRSM Grade 5.

New students are welcome for in-person lessons in London and online tuition.

My teaching experience includes more than 20 years of private tuition, work for schools projects, teaching modern and baroque flute students at the University of East Anglia, performing in orchestral training projects at the University of Chichester, and devising education projects for The Vauxhall Band at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.

I’m currently Flute and Music Theory teacher at Graveney School in London, where I also direct the Flute Ensemble and Early Music Ensemble.

I tailor lessons to each individual student, whether working towards exams and auditions, building confidence and technique, returning to playing after a break, or simply learning for enjoyment. I aim to create a supportive and engaging environment in which students can develop strong technical foundations, musical understanding and confidence in performance.

My private students have included children, adult beginners, advanced amateur musicians and students preparing for conservatoire auditions and diploma examinations. Former students have gained music scholarships to leading independent schools and achieved success in graded exams, auditions and performances.

Lessons are available in Maida Vale, London, or online via Zoom. I hold a current DBS certificate and have extensive experience teaching children and young people.
